Their descendants live today in the Resguardo Ind\u00edgena de Cristian\u00eda Ember\u00e1 \u2013 Cham\u00ed reserve.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jard\u00edn is nestled in a beautiful mountain landscape, with coffee and banana plantations stretching along its slopes. Hikes to viewpoints, excursions to waterfalls, coffee tours, and the Reserva Natural Jard\u00edn de Rocas, where the Andean cock-of-the-rock can be observed up close, are among the most popular activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Today, about 15,000 people live in Jard\u00edn, of whom nearly 8600 live in the urban area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting to Jard\u00edn<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We were traveling with our own camper and used Jard\u00edn as a stopover on the way from Salento to Medell\u00edn. The road leads through beautiful mountain landscapes, through small villages and past numerous coffee plantations and is a truly worthwhile road trip. You can also reach Jard\u00edn by bus from Medell\u00edn or Salento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Arrival from Medell\u00edn<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are traveling by public transport, Jard\u00edn is easiest to reach from Medell\u00edn. Several buses from the Rapido Ochoa bus company depart daily from the Bus Terminal del Sur to the Colombian mountain village. This gives you enough time to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>explore Jard\u00edn itself and its colorful architecture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>go on hikes in the surrounding area and visit some waterfalls<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>visit a coffee farm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>observe the Andean cock-of-the-rock in the Reserva Natural Jard\u00edn de Rocas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best time to visit Jard\u00edn Colombia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Jard\u00edn can be visited well all year round. Temperatures are usually between 18 and 24 \u00b0C and the climate is characterized by dry and rainy months. The dry months are December \u2013 March as well as July \u2013 August, although it can rain now and then during this time. In the remaining months, however, rain falls significantly more often, making nature particularly green and lush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jard\u00edn is a relatively relaxed place and significantly less crowded than, for example, Salento, Guatap\u00e9, or Villa de Leyva. The highest tourist numbers are around Christmas and New Year's, as well as during Holy Week. We were in Jard\u00edn between Christmas and New Year's and still found the visitor numbers relatively pleasant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The most beautiful sights in Jard\u00edn Colombia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Jard\u00edn is relatively small, the town has a lot to offer. Be sure to take your time to stroll through the streets and admire the colonial houses with their colorful facades and ornate wooden balconies. Along the way, you can discover cozy cafes, small restaurants, and lovingly furnished handicraft shops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Plaza Principal, the main square, is the heart of Jard\u00edn, where the imposing Bas\u00edlica Menor de la Inmaculada Concepci\u00f3n is located. The neo-Gothic building dates from the 20th century and has an impressive nave, for which a look inside the church is worthwhile.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Life in Jard\u00edn takes place here in the square. In the morning, locals meet for the first coffee of the day, while in the evening the square fills with people winding down the day in one of the bars. If you linger here long enough, you may have the opportunity to observe a special gait of the horses. When people come to Jard\u00edn from the surrounding fincas, they occasionally show off their horses here. We have read that this gait was developed so that one does not spill their coffee on horseback. From the center, a path leads steadily uphill for about 45 minutes to the viewpoint. The Cueva del Esplendor is one of the most visited attractions in Jard\u00edn de Antioquia. You can visit the cave either independently or as part of a guided tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to visit the cave independently, you start the hike north of the main square. The hike leads through beautiful mountain landscapes and coffee plantations, but is relatively steep in places. You can either take the same path back or walk along the road that is also used by the tour operators' jeeps.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are not allowed to enter the cave alone. There are several tour operators near the main square, but they basically all offer the same thing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A tour costs 70,000 pesos, which already includes the entrance fee of 20,000 pesos. From the center, jeeps will take you to a parking lot about 3 kilometers from the cave entrance. You have to cover the last 3 kilometers on foot.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tour start<\/strong>: Die Touren starten jeden Tag um 9.00 Uhr.<br><strong>Price<\/strong>: 70,000 Pesos (approx. \u20ac17), the 20,000 Pesos for admission are included here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">La Garrucha Cable Car<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A special experience is a ride on the historic cable car La Garrucha. It is used by locals to transport goods from Jard\u00edn to the surrounding farms, but tourists can also use it. The small rustic cable car connects the village with a viewpoint above the town. There is a small caf\u00e9 there, from which you have a beautiful view over Jardin and the surrounding fincas. You will learn more about the cultivation, harvesting, and processing of Colombian coffee and can also taste it. There are quite a few fincas that offer tours in Jard\u00edn. For example, you can book an English-language tour at <a href=\"https:\/\/fincamariposajardin.com\/coffee-tours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Finca Mariposa<\/a>. The brightly colored red birds have a mating ground in Jard\u00edn and can be observed there up close.
