How many days should you stay in Jardín Colombia?
To make the journey worthwhile and to have enough time for the most beautiful sights in Jardín, we recommend planning at least two to three days. This gives you enough time to:
- explore Jardín itself and its colorful architecture
- go on hikes in the surrounding area and visit some waterfalls
- visit a coffee farm
- observe the Andean cock-of-the-rock in the Reserva Natural Jardín de Rocas
Best time to visit Jardín Colombia
Jardín can be visited well all year round. Temperatures are usually between 18 and 24 °C and the climate is characterized by dry and rainy months. The dry months are December – March as well as July – August, although it can rain now and then during this time. In the remaining months, however, rain falls significantly more often, making nature particularly green and lush.
Jardín is a relatively relaxed place and significantly less crowded than, for example, Salento, Guatapé, or Villa de Leyva. The highest tourist numbers are around Christmas and New Year's, as well as during Holy Week. We were in Jardín between Christmas and New Year's and still found the visitor numbers relatively pleasant.
The most beautiful sights in Jardín Colombia
Although Jardín is relatively small, the town has a lot to offer. Here you will find:
- Colorful colonial architecture with the Plaza Principal & Basílica Menor de la Inmaculada Concepción
- Mirador Cristo Rey
- Cueva del Esplendor
- The historic cable car La Garrucha
- Coffee plantations around Jardín that you can visit
- Reserva Natural Jardín de Rocas (Andean Cock-of-the-rock)
Colorful colonial architecture, ornate wooden balconies, Plaza Principal & Basílica Menor de la Inmaculada Concepción
Jardín is one of the most colorful villages in Colombia and truly captivated us. Be sure to take your time to stroll through the streets and admire the colonial houses with their colorful facades and ornate wooden balconies. Along the way, you can discover cozy cafes, small restaurants, and lovingly furnished handicraft shops.
The Plaza Principal, the main square, is the heart of Jardín, where the imposing Basílica Menor de la Inmaculada Concepción is located. The neo-Gothic building dates from the 20th century and has an impressive nave, for which a look inside the church is worthwhile.
Life in Jardín takes place here in the square. In the morning, locals meet for the first coffee of the day, while in the evening the square fills with people winding down the day in one of the bars. If you linger here long enough, you may have the opportunity to observe a special gait of the horses. When people come to Jardín from the surrounding fincas, they occasionally show off their horses here. We have read that this gait was developed so that one does not spill their coffee on horseback. However, we do not know if this is actually true.

Mirador Cristo Rey
The nearby viewpoint Mirador Cristo Rey offers a fantastic view over Jardín and can be easily reached as part of a short hike. From the center, a path leads steadily uphill for about 45 minutes to the viewpoint. From there, you can hike a little further to Café Jardín, a small café with a great view.
Cueva del Esplendor

An impressive natural highlight of the region is the Cueva del Esplendor, a cave in which a waterfall plunges through a round hole in the ceiling. The Cueva del Esplendor is one of the most visited attractions in Jardín de Antioquia. You can visit the cave either independently or as part of a guided tour.
If you want to visit the cave independently, you start the hike north of the main square. The hike leads through beautiful mountain landscapes and coffee plantations, but is relatively steep in places. You can either take the same path back or walk along the road that is also used by the tour operators' jeeps.
You are not allowed to enter the cave alone. As soon as you arrive at the entrance to the Cueva del Esplendor, you have to wait for a guide who lets in the waiting visitors approximately every 45 minutes.
Distance: 16 km hin und zurück
Elevation gain: 870 m
Price: 20.000 Pesos (ca. 5 €)
Note: We walked the route in reverse.

Alternatively, there is the option to visit the cave as part of a tour. There are several tour operators near the main square, but they basically all offer the same thing.
A tour costs 70,000 pesos, which already includes the entrance fee of 20,000 pesos. From the center, jeeps will take you to a parking lot about 3 kilometers from the cave entrance. You have to cover the last 3 kilometers on foot.
Tour start: Die Touren starten jeden Tag um 9.00 Uhr.
Price: 70,000 Pesos (approx. €17), the 20,000 Pesos for admission are included here.
La Garrucha Cable Car
A special experience is a ride on the historic cable car La Garrucha. It is used by locals to transport goods from Jardín to the surrounding farms, but tourists can also use it. The small rustic cable car connects the village with a viewpoint above the town. There is a small café there, from which you have a beautiful view over Jardin and the surrounding fincas. From there, you can hike to the Mirador El Bosque in 45 minutes, where the best view over the town is said to be.
Price: 12,000 COP (approx. 12 €) round trip
Operating hours
Monday – Friday 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM
Saturday 9:30 AM – 7:00 PM
Sunday 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Visit a coffee farm
Jardín is located in the middle of the Colombian coffee region, so a coffee tour on one of the numerous fincas is recommended. You will learn more about the cultivation, harvesting, and processing of Colombian coffee and can also taste it. There are quite a few fincas that offer tours in Jardín. For example, you can book an English-language tour at Finca Mariposa. A tour here costs 41 USD (as of March 2026).
Since we have already done coffee tours in Ecuador, we did not visit any in Jardín. In general, however, we can definitely recommend a tour. We learned a lot about the cultivation and processing of coffee.

Observe the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock
A special experience is observing the Andean cock-of-the-rock in the Reserva Natural Jardín de Rocas. The brightly colored red birds have a mating ground in Jardín and can be observed there up close. The reserve is only a few minutes' walk from the center, and even if birds don't interest you much, in our opinion, the visit is worthwhile, because you can hardly get this close to these special birds anywhere else.
Opening hours: The reserve is usually open from September to May from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Price: 20,000 COP (approx. €5)
Further detailed information, we have it in our post Observe the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock in Jardín Colombia – best time, costs & tips.
Accommodation in Jardín Colombia – Hotels, Hostels and Camping
In Jardín you will find a large selection of accommodation, as the small town is a popular destination for Colombians. From simple hostels to cozy boutique hotels to camping facilities, there is something for almost every budget. Since Jardín is quite manageable, you can easily reach the central sights as well as cafes and restaurants on foot.
If you are traveling by camper, we can recommend the ECOXPLORA campsite. It is clean, quietly located, and you can walk to the center in about 10 minutes.
Restaurants and Cafes in Jardín Colombia

In Jardín you will find numerous cafes and restaurants offering both regional and international dishes. Several restaurants and small bars are located around the main square, where you can observe the lively goings-on on the plaza in the evening with a beer or another drink.
Some of our favorites in Jardín:
Tepuye – Here you get delicious pizza
Raíces – Restaurant with Colombian dishes as well as really good burgers
Café del Alto de las Flores – Cozy little café that sources its coffee from its own finca in the surrounding area
Café Colectores – very good breakfast, good coffee and a nice outdoor terrace
Cocoa Café Gelateria – Delicious ice cream and other sweet treats

Conclusion: Is Jardín Worth It?
For us, Jardín is one of the most beautiful places we have visited in Colombia. The combination of colorful architecture, relaxed atmosphere, and beautiful nature is truly worth the detour.
Although we were traveling between Christmas and New Year, we found the atmosphere in Jardín relaxed. In the evenings, the restaurants and bars on the Plaza were well-filled, but that also has its charm.
